Mini Speed Dating Events at the LIJC Chili Cookoff CHARITY EVENT www.LIJC.com
Elks Lodge- 901 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park (516)352-6620
Sunday 9/25 2PM *Mini speed dating-(2-3:30 PM) *Chili Cook Off *Live Cover Band Cost $5.00 adults $3.00 children Pay at the door What is mini speed dating? We will be selecting 3 men and 3 women in similar age groups to participate in this event. People will be selected from the crowd on a lottery basis. Due to the number of people expected, not everyone will get to participate in the mini speed dating. As with our regular events, you will have about 4-5 minutes to chat with the person of the opposite sex. You will select Yes or No as to whether you would be interested in getting to know that person better. Then the men will rotate on to the next station and the process begins again. At the end of the mini event, we will collect your scorecards and email you the next day with your matches. We will have multiple rounds of mini speed dating events. What is a Chili Cook-Off? A Chili Cook-Off is a competition where people enter their home-made chili mixes to see whose is the best. Entrants are judged in different categories and can win prizes that have been donated from one of our sponsors. What is the Long Island Junior Chamber of Commerce (LIJC)? The Long Island Junior Chamber of Commerce (LIJC) is a group for young professionals on Long Island dedicated to community service, leadership development, and personal growth. It is a local chapter of the U.S. Junior Chamber which was established in 1920 to provide opportunities for its members to develop personal and leadership skills through service to others. The LIJC is also a not-for-profit corporation/organization as described under IRS code 501(c)(4).
What else is going on during the cook-off? We will have a Kids Corner booth set up with fun activities for the children and live entertainment provided by Dragon Eye Seven. Our sponsor Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa & Salon of Walt Whitman Mall will be setting up a booth to provide free massages. For the single men and women in attendance, a special treat: LIJC member and owner of Weekenddating.com , Jay Rosensweig, will be conducting "mini" speeddating events. The Elks Lodge will be selling other non-chili food and beverages. In support of our sponsor Coors, the LIJC will be the sole provider of beer.
Where is the money raised for this event going? We are aware that some of our earlier promotion material had the Mary Brennan INN, an organization dedicated to helping the hungry and homeless population on Long Island, as the recipient of money raised at the Cook-off. However, in light of recent events, the LIJC has decided to change our selected charity. Therefore, part of the money raised at this event will be donated to help the victims of hurricane Katrina
