What kind of events does Weekenddating.com have?

Thanks to your many suggestions and feedback received over the past 4 years, it is not just speed dating for singles anymore.  Many of the events modify the speed dating format to an activity.  These events are structured so that you get to enjoy the activity, but are also ensured to meet everyone who attends by incorporating a rotation factor.  This eliminates any awkward entrance to exists to conversations.  There is:

 

How the events work

Events are designed by age category and all participants are required to show identification showing proof of age.  We don't think it is fair to advertise one age group and deliver something else.  Everyone makes an advance reservation and payment to ensure we have an equal number of men and women. 

Speed Dating: You will have up to 15 mini speed dates during the night, each one lasting about 4-5 minutes.  After each date, you will circle yes or no on your scorecard as to whether or not you would be interested in corresponding with that person further.  At the end of the evening you will turn in your scorecard for us to tally.  The next morning you will receive an email letting you know who you matched with.  The email will provide you with the person's first name and email address and they will get your first name and email address.  We even let you know the one way matches (they picked you, but you didn't pick them), just in case you change your mind.  Thus far 70-80% of the participants leave the event with at least one match (meaning that you picked a person and they picked you too).   

As one participant said "This is great!  I could have stared at a guy all night in a bar, and never have spoken to him.  This forces you to be social." For more details on how the events are run visit the How our speed dating events work page. 

Other Speed Events: These events involve some type of activity such as Bowling, Cooking, Billiards, Bingo, Dancing, Golf etc. and build off of the speed dating model.  They incorporate a rotation factor so that you will spend a specified period of time with each person or group, and then rotate to meet people from the next group.  There is no awkward entrance or exits to conversations.  At the end of these events, you will be able to hand in a scorecard and receive your matches the next day.  Please click the links above to read how each specific event works. 

Non Structured Events: We also offer several non structured events such as Bar-B-Q's, Concerts, Baseball Games, Comedy, fitness, scavenger hunts and more.  Many of these events do include some ice breaker games to get people talking, but are much less structured than some of the other events.

Girls Night Out: Not a lesbian event.  This fantastic event is set up for ladies who are looking to make new friends as activity partners.  Please watch the CNN video for more details. (May take a few minutes to load).


 

Why we started Weekenddating.com

 It is not easy meeting single people nowadays.  For starters, the awkward first approach can be very uncomfortable.  The bars or clubs may not be the best place to meet a quality person to date because we already start with a conflict of interest. Most women have said that they go to bars/clubs to hang out with friends, while most guys go to "pick up."  Many women wont even consider a guy they meet in a bar or a club because "he is probably just looking for one thing."  So where do you go to meet people?  This question has led to the popularity of speed dating.  Our singles events takes online dating to the next level, getting people out from beyond the computer and cuts right to the chase. People come to  make new friends, and possible new romantic connections. 

 

Where are singles events held?

Speed dating events and other singles activities are held on Long Island, in both Nassau and Suffolk county, Queens, and in New York City.   Our venues have included Mustang Harrys, Bruno's in Ronkonkoma, Cats Meow in Smithtown, Jillian's of Westbury, The Sly Fox, Luckys in Queens, Noche Blue in Levittown, RC Dugans in East Meadow, Mulcahy's in Wantagh, Brandywine in Bay Ridge, Delia's Lounge Bay Ridge, Greenhouse Cafe in Bay Ridge, and Pazzo Bay Ridge, NY

Non  speed dating events take place in a variety of places.


 

What you should know about singles events

Would you be surprised if I told you that you might like one of my competitors events better?  Yes, it is the truth.  I have really listened to your feedback and suggestions over the years and try to put on the best possible event.  None the less, my system does not work for everyone and you have many options.  If you do not come to my event, I hope you will choose another REPUTABLE organization.  There are some very good groups who have your best interests at heart, but also some shady groups who do not care about you and are only interested in making a quick buck. 

Here are some things you should know about speed dating events.  Many of the items can be applied to regular singles events as well.

Not all events are run the same way

Jay, I must tell you...I tried a different speed dating service the other night. It was { } speed dating...It was awful!  After having attended hers, I realized how much better and organized your events are.  I even might have gotten you some new customers...because I was telling my "dates" how much better you are and gave them your website. :)
 
What I didn't like about hers was...she actually started at 9:00, after telling everyone to be there at 7:30.  A lot of peopel looked uncomfortable waiting around the bar for over an hour.  She didn't introduce herself.  She didn't give us a separate piece of paper to take our own notes, nor did she give us time to take notes.  I can't remember who is who.  :)  The next day, all she does is give the guys the phone number (I would prefer email) of the women they were a match with...she does not even contact the women at all with the names of the guys who said yes to her.  Oh, and yes, the worst thing, she advertised two age groups and then stuck them all together.  So some of the young guys were unhappy with meeting the older women.  I actually had a guy sit down at my table and say to me "so you're old too"!  Can you believe that?  I wrote her an email telling her how unhappy I was.

  • Does the company advertise more than one age group for the same night?  This is a little trick that some companies play.  They advertise two different age groups for the same night (e.g. ages 41-51 and 52-62), so you are led to believe two different events are taking place.  You call up the organizer who says, yes we have 20 men and 21 women attending.  Wow! this company must be good since they have that many people.  Beware, because this may be a trick.  Remember, two different age groups were advertised (41-51 and 52-62), but their is only one event taking place and the organizer is mixing everyone together.  So the actual age group for the night is 41-62.  You may be meeting 20 people that night, but the age variance is HUGE. 
     

  • Does the organizer adhere to the age groups posted or do they have a policy of "If you don't tell, we wont tell."  Proof of age is required at all Weekenddating.com events.  Their is nothing worse than signing up for an event only to find that the people attending are way over or under the age groups posted.  That is false advertising.  On the other hand, if you are looking to date outside your age group, a company that is not a stickler on the age groups may be an enticing option for you.
     

  • Do you have to enter in your own selections after the speed dating event?  A night of speed dating can be very enjoyable, but also a little bit exhausting.  Most companies require you to go home and enter in your own selections after the event.  A few companies, including  WeekendDating.com send the matches to you and do all the work.  You may be saying Big Deal?  Well it is a big deal since if you have to enter in your own selections, you may have to wait days to get your results or may not get accurate results at all.  Why?  What happens if you go home after the event and do your homework by entering your selections, but Jennifer waits a few days before doing hers?  During those few days, you may be left waiting for the results to come in.  What if Jennifer does not enter in the matches at all.  Maybe she lost the paper, dog ate it, etc.  You are left thinking that you really did not match, when in fact that may not be the case.
     

  • When do you receive your matches?  At our events, you receive your matches the next morning, many times within hours after the event.  Some other companies also do a good job and send you the matches the next day.  Others require you to wait 48 hours or more because they force you to enter in your own matches and can not start sending results until giving people a chance to input selections.  Before making a reservation, find out how long you have to wait before getting your matches.
     

  • Do you receive one way matches, meaning if  someone picked you, but you didn't pick them, do you still find out? It can sometimes be overwhelming meeting a lot of people very fast, and you may change your mind.  WeekendDating.com gives you one way matches as do a few other companies.  Other groups do not.  If this is an important feature, find out if the singles group provides you with one way matches.
     

  • Do you get to meet EVERYONE at the event?  Some companies such as Weekenddating.com structure the event so that you meet everyone who attends.  However at other events, you only get to meet some of the attendees, but are encouraged to meet the others during a break period or afterwards.  That can still be a little awkward. 
     

  • Does the company require pre-payment for the events? 
    This is KEY.  Ensuring an equal gender balance is no easy task.  Although it is nice to just be able to show up and pay at the door, this system just does not work and consistently leads to a gender imbalance. 
     

  • When are the events held?  Our events are only held on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  Most other groups have events mid-week.  Choose a company that has events during times that fit your schedule.
     

  • How long is each date?  I have seen everywhere from 3 minutes to 10 minutes, all depending on the philosophy of the company running the event.  Our philosophy is to have you meet more people (no more than 20) for less time (usually 4 or 5 minutes).  If you have an initial connection with someone, or are not sure after the 4 or 5 minutes, you can get to know the person afterwards or through email, but that important ice breaker has already taken place.  Dating is a numbers game.  

    Other groups have you meet 7 or 8 people for 7 or 8 minutes each, so you get a little more time with each person, but do not get to meet everyone.  For some people, that works just fine and you should go with a group that uses that system.

     

  • How long has the company been in business?  I am not saying that you should not give the new kid on a block a chance, but just be careful.  The average company that hosts speed dating events is around for about 3 months.  Try to find out if the hosting company is brand new, or has a history of canceling events because of a poor turnout.
     

  • Food or any extras included?  Some event organizers do include food at the events and others do not.  If that is something important to you, find out if anything is included.
     

  • Does the company have an updated website with a phone number to call should you have any questions?  If there is not an easy way to get a live person on the phone should you have a question or problem, you may want to stay away.  When you visit the website (if their is one), the events should be relatively current and not list parties from months ago.
