After my dad beat a few bouts of cancer and developed mild dementia, I made a conscious decision to keep building memories and spend as much time as I can with him.  For the last 5 years or so, some of you may have seen him with me at my events as the "official pen giver."  He loved meeting many of you, asking some of the women out on dates, telling jokes and giving out the pens.

Dad's dementia has worsened, so I am not too sure you will see him around with me at the events.  Trying to put plans in place on how to care for him has become overwhelming at times and it is an ongoing process.

I have heard that others are going through similar situations and it got me thinking that we should have a educational event for singles where related topics can be discussed.  The class would talk about services that can help caregivers including but not limited to support groups, financial planning, asset protection, medicare, medicaid, services that provide reliable aids and more.

What if your parents are doing just fine?   You would still be welcomed and encouraged to attend.  If you plan things right, you can protect your assets if your loved one ever needed nursing care or home aid.  If you wait till their is a crisis, it might be too late.

"I developed StuffSeniorsNeed.com
after I dealt with so many issues for my parents, ranging from finding cheap dentures for Dad (age 74) or navigating the Medicaid process after Moms heart attack (age 70) that I realized that my experiences would benefit not only senior citizens but also their caregivers as well.

Ultimately, that is the reason I created StuffSeniorsNeed.com, to provide seniors and their caregivers with all of the information that I had personally acquired to enable them to live more rewarding lives."

As far as the bullet points, I am going to be talking about free services available for seniors here on Long Island.

It's about resources. If you can talk about aging in place and how with simple modifications seniors can stay in their homes a lot longer than most families think. Speak about how much easier and safer living at home can be if the proper additions/adjustments are made
