If you are new to the singles scene, check out our guidelines for choosing the right NYC event. Thanks to your many suggestions and feedback received over the past 4 years, it is not just speed dating in NY anymore. Many of the events modify the speed-dating format to an activity. The best N.Y.C. Speed Dating and singles events are structured so that you get to enjoy the activity, but are also ensured to meet everyone who attends by incorporating a rotation factor. We held our first New york city event for singles on Valentines Day 2003 and have since expanded to Connecticut, Long Island and other areas. Over 85 married couples and we are still going strong! Why we are called Weekenddating It was 2003 and I (Jay) was working in corporate america. All of my friends were getting married, had girlfriends and it was not fun being the last single one of the group. A co-worker named Samantha said that she saw this thing on the news called Hurry Date and it would be right up my alley. I went to a few events and they were always held on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. I loved the concept but wouldnt get home until 11:30 PM and had to be up for work at 6 am.
Why speed dating works How many times have you seen someone you would like to approach but did not? Nobody wants that uncomfortable feeling. The beauty of the NYC speed dating is that the awkwardness is removed from the equation. No pressure getting into conversations. Even better... No pressure getting out of conversations. That is all done for you. Can you really get to know someone in 5 minutes? What goes on at the speed dating event? Arrive about 15-30 minutes prior to start time so that you can settle in. Check in with your host to receive your welcome packet (We do check for proof of age to make sure we deliver what is advertised). Once we get started, everyone is paired off into groups of two. You spend approximately five minutues with someone and then jot down a few notes to help you remember who they are. (If you do not take notes, it can get confusing since you are meeting a lot of people). Next, the guys shift over one spot and we start the process again. How many people will I meet? How do I let you know who I liked? For in person events, you will hand in a scorecard to let us know your selections. Within 24 hours, you will receive an email that lets you know who you matched with.
